Regional Minister Lauds Catholic Church’s Role in Development, Urges Prayers for Conflict Zones
The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has lauded the Catholic Church for its century-long contributions to moral development, education, health, and peacebuilding in the region.
The minister delivered the remarks during the climax of the Church’s centenary celebration at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish in Bolgatanga, held under the theme “100 years of walking together as a family of God.”
Hon. Akamugri described the milestone as a testament to the Church’s resilience, faith, and commitment to humanity.
He highlighted its role as a “pillar of hope” and a key partner in national development, particularly in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to collaborating with the Church to promote social justice and peace, singling out Bishop Alfred Agyenta for his leadership in fostering religious harmony.
He also called for prayers to restore peace in conflict-affected areas like Bawku and Doba-Kandiga, as well as divine guidance for President and his appointees.
As the Diocese marked its centenary, Hon. Akamugri urged continued dedication to faith, love, and service, expressing hope for the Church’s sustained growth.
The event was attended by clergy, traditional leaders, civil society representatives, and Sheikh Alhaji Umar Yussuf, the Regional Chief Imam, symbolizing interfaith unity.
