MMDAs

The Upper East Regional Coordinating Council Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) play a pivotal role in the development and governance of the Upper East Region in Ghana. Committed to fostering inclusive growth, sustainable development, and effective service delivery, the MMDA’s function as the local government authorities responsible for managing the affairs of their respective areas within the region.

The Upper East Regional Coordinating Council MMDA’s envision a region characterized by prosperous communities, social cohesion, and sustainable development. We strive to create an enabling environment where every individual, irrespective of their background, can thrive and contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of the region.

Our mission is to promote good governance, efficient service delivery, and socio-economic development within the Upper East Region. We are dedicated to empowering communities, enhancing local participation, and implementing strategic policies and programs that address the needs and aspirations of our diverse population.

Effective Governance:
We aim to strengthen the governance structures and systems within the MMDA’s to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient decision-making. We work towards promoting citizen participation and engagement in the decision-making process, ensuring that the voices of the people are heard and incorporated into our policies and programs.
Infrastructure Development:
We recognize the importance of robust infrastructure for sustainable development. Our MMDA’s prioritize the planning, construction, and maintenance of critical infrastructure such as roads, schools, hospitals, markets, water and sanitation facilities, and other public amenities to improve the quality of life for our residents.

Socio-economic Empowerment:
We are committed to promoting economic empowerment and improving livelihoods within the region. We support initiatives that stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and enhance skills development for the youth and vulnerable groups. By fostering entrepreneurship and supporting local industries, we strive to reduce poverty and enhance the economic well-being of our communities.

Environmental Sustainability:
The Upper East Region is blessed with abundant natural resources and a diverse ecosystem. We recognize the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable natural resource management. Our MMDA’s implement policies and programs that promote environmental sustainability, climate change mitigation, and resilience, while ensuring the protection and preservation of our natural heritage.

Social Welfare and Human Development:
We prioritize the welfare and well-being of our residents, with a particular focus on vulnerable groups such as women, children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly. Our MMDA’s implement social intervention programs, provide access to quality education and healthcare services, and support initiatives that promote social inclusion, gender equality, and human rights.
