EMULATE SACRIFICES OF FALLEN HEROES – MINISTER TO SECURITY OFFICERS

The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu has called on security service personnel in the region to emulate the sacrifices of fallen heroes who fought in the World Wars to attain the peace and independence in the world over.

He said a good number of Ghanaian troops excelled in international peacekeeping missions, “thus emulating the prowess of their forefathers and exhibiting high standards and professionalism in their areas of endeavor.”

The Minister, who was speaking at the 76th Remembrance Day Parade in honor of the fallen heroes, appealed to officers of the security services to exhibit high sense of discipline and commitment in all aspects of their duties either in Ghana or outside the country.

The Hon. Yakubu, who is also the Chairman of the Regional Security Council, told officers on Parade that their morale could be redeemed if each one of them worked hard towards it.

He conceded that the needs of the security services were enormous, saying “His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is doing his part by providing the security services with logistics and modern housing among others to enhance their work.”

The Minister said the good people of Ghana and Government were doing their part, and called on the security services to work hard to restore the image of their agencies, and help fight the various social vices including armed robbery, rape and global threats such as violent extremism and terrorism.

He noted that in recent times, terrorism had been a threat to many countries particularly in West Africa and the Sahel Regions, and appealed to retired security personnel resident in communities in the Region to offer their expert advice to citizens to be aware of threats and conscious about suspicion characters and provide timely and accurate reports to the security services to take action.

Prayers were offered for the peaceful rest of the souls of the departed heroes, while Hon. Yakubu laid a wreath on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana.

Other wreaths were also laid on behalf of the traditional authority, security agencies, the VAG and their widows.
