GOAL OF QUALITY EDUCATION ACHIEVABLE IN APPROPRIATE INVESTMENT – BAWUMIA

The Vice President, His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia says the goal of quality education can only be attained with the appropriate investment in the educational infrastructure.

According to him, the government under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had embarked on over 3,000 various educational infrastructure to provide effective learning environment for students across the country.

He said nearly 50 percent of such projects were already completed in the Upper East Region with about 164 of such infrastructure already completed.

Dr. Bawumia said this at the climax the 60th Anniversary celebration of Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO) in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region.

The occasion was graced by high profile government officials, Old Students (NABIA), traditional and religious leaders, and members of the public.

The Vice President described 60years in the life of an institution as great achievement, and noted that NAVASCO had produced professionals in all spheres of the economy including governance, academia, medicine, engineering, industry, the security services, education, business, the Bar and the Bench, culture and religion.

He said considering the remarkable achievements of the school, government had commenced some development infrastructure including a 12 unit classroom block, a 12 seater toilet and six seater water closet toilet projects in the school.

“We will ensure that these projects are completed as soon as possible to ameliorate the problems of inadequate infrastructure the school is currently facing. We will also take steps to complete the girls dormitory projects that have stalled as part of our commitment to ensuring quality education.” he assured.

His Excellency the Vice President said in honour of NAVASCO, Government would construct a four kilometre asphalt road on the school’s campus, adding that the Ghana Education Service would supply large quantities of science equipment and chemicals for practical work to the school.

Alhaji Dr. Bawumia used the occasion to appeal to parents to take keen interest in the education of their wards and admonished students to take advantage of government’s Free Senior High School policy and study to make their parents, the school and nation proud.

On behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his own behalf, Dr. Bawumia made a cash donations of GH100,000 to the school as their contribution towards the Anniversary celebration.

The Headmistress of NAVASCO, Ms. Mercy Babachuweh said the future and progress of the school as predicted by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah started in the late 1970s when they could not keep truck of their students in Universities across the country.

She said NABIA were found in all spheres of the nation’s socio-political, culture and spiritual life, “A few of these, without any prejudice to other equally important personalities, include H.E. Lawrence Satu in Diplomacy, Air Marshall Samson Oje (Rtd) in Security, Alhaji Prof. Amin Alhassan in communication, countless Professors in academia both at home and abroad, Medical Professionals Business Executives and Legal luminaries.”
