The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Donatus Akamugri Atanga, urged development partners to strengthen collaboration and address funding gaps during a meeting at the Ghana Health Service In-Service Training Centre on Wednesday.
The gathering brought together NGOs, civil society organizations, and municipal leaders to discuss strategies for sustainable development in the region.
Hon. Akamugri emphasized the need to avoid duplication of efforts, improve coordination, and secure alternative funding following the suspension of USAID support to Ghana.
“The suspension of USAID’s programs has affected critical initiatives like RING II and Feed the Future Ghana,” Hon. Akamugri said. “We must explore new partnerships to mitigate these losses and ensure progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.”
The minister highlighted challenges such as ineffective coordination, data gaps, and inactive partners on the regional database. He called for better alignment of projects with local needs and urged partners to involve municipal assemblies in planning and monitoring.
Hon. Akamugri also praised WaterAid Ghana for organizing the meeting and expressed hope for a formal consortium to sustain development efforts. “Together, we can improve living conditions and harness the region’s potential in agriculture, trade, and tourism,” he said.
