Upper East Regional Minister Accepts Role As Chief Patron of Bolgatanga Tennis Club
Members of the Bolgatanga Lawn Tennis Club Thursday paid a courtesy call on the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, to formally welcome him and seek his support for the club’s activities.
During the meeting, a patron of the club highlighted its rich history, tracing its origins to the colonial era when Zuarungu served as the capital of the Upper Region. The club later relocated to Bolgatanga following the movement of the regional capital.
With a diverse membership of over 30, including nine patrons, the club appointed the Regional Minister as its chief patron, a role expected to facilitate logistical and administrative support. The club expressed confidence in the minister’s commitment to their cause.
The delegation emphasized the club’s active participation in tennis tournaments across regions, including a Triangular Tournament with Wa and Tamale, though engagements with counterparts in Burkina Faso have been dormant. They appealed to the minister to help revive these international fixtures.
Additionally, the club highlighted its corporate social responsibility initiatives, such as promoting tennis among the youth through clinics and supporting young talents in furthering their education.
In response, Hon. Akamugri expressed admiration for the club’s history and membership, accepting his role as chief patron. He pledged to build on the legacy of his predecessors, ensuring the club’s growth.
