STEPHEN YAKUBU CONTRIBUTES TO LADIES SOCCER IN UPPER EAST
The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu, has presented a set of jersey and football to the Sumbrungu-Kunkua Ladies Football Club (FC) in promote ladies soccer in the region.
The gesture was to encourage the team after it won this year’s Regional Ladies Football Championship and the GFA President’s Cup.
Alhaji Inusah Abubakari, the Regional Coordinating Director, who made the presentation on behalf of the Minister, said sports had the potential to change the face of the region if given the needed support.
He urged the youth who engaged in various sporting activities to embrace discipline as it was the surest way to unearth their potentials to the fullest.
He assured the team and management of the Football Club of the Region’s support in the upcoming Zonal Women’s Championship league scheduled to be played in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.
The Coach and Founder of the team, Mr. Iddrisu Mubarak, thanked the Regional Minister and management of the RCC for the support, and gave the assurance that the team would strive to promote female football and bring honour to the Region.
He said the Sumbrungu based ladies FC was founded in 2016 with the objective to reduce the rural urban migration and encourage young girls to stay in school.
The Coach, who is also a professional teacher, said there was the need to develop football skills as a new trade to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.
Mr. Mubarak used the opportunity to appeal for means of transport and food for the players aged between nine to 12 years.
