The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has emphasized the urgent need to resolve the protracted conflict in Bawku, which has displaced workers and disrupted livelihoods over the past four years.
Speaking at the Regional May Day celebration held at the Jubilee Park in Bolgatanga Thursday, the Minister acknowledged the devastating impact of the conflict, which has claimed lives, limbs, and property.
He assured workers and residents that the government, through the Otumfuo-led mediation efforts, is making strenuous efforts to restore peace and normalcy to the area.
“The resolution of the Bawku conflict is of utmost importance to His Excellency the President and the Regional Security Council,” Hon. Akamugri stated.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring that displaced workers can return to their homes and workplaces, contributing once again to the socio-economic development of the region.
Speaking on the theme: “Resetting Pay and Working Conditions in Ghana: The Role of the Stakeholder,” the Minister also addressed broader challenges facing the workforce, including the erosion of discipline and ethics among workers.
He reiterated the government’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare, including a 10% salary increment for public sector workers under the Single Spine Salary Structure, effective January 1, 2025.
