RCC APPEALS FOR SANITARY PADS FOR ADOLESCENT GIRLS

The Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), has appealed to its development partners to allocate budgets to provide sanitary pads for adolescent girls in schools in the region.
The RCC said such initiative would boost the confidence of adolescent girls and make them comfortable to undertake academic activities in schools and reduce the lateness and absenteeism among adolescent girls in school.
The Chief Director of the RCC, Alhaji Abubakari Inusah, made the appeal in an address on behalf of the Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu, at a forum to mark the International Day of the Girl Child, organized by ActionAid- Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization.
Hon. Yakubu further expressed concern about the poor performance in the just ended Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the region.
He said some wrote with pregnancy, while some were nursing mothers.
He advised the students in the region especially girls to remain focus on their studies and learn to achieve their future ambitions, and gave the assurance that government would continue to create the enabling environment for them.
Mr. Alhassan Sulemana, the Region’s Programme Manager of ActionAid Ghana, said the International Day of the Girl Child was a day dedicated to recognize and promote the rights and well-being of girls worldwide.
The celebration was on the theme: “Model Girls’ School: Promoting Safe Space for Girls Education and Leadership.”
