The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu has admonished parents to prioritize the education of their children to reduce poverty in the north.
He said the New Patriotic Party government recognised education as key to human resource development and therefore introduced the Free Senior High School policy to make education accessible to all Ghanaian children.
Citing himself as an example, the Minister said “If l had not attended school where would I have been today, l could have never been a Regional Minister.”
Hon. Yakubu said this when he commissioned a 12-Unit one-storey school complex constructed by Earl International Group (GH) Ltd, a mining company located at Gbane, a community in the Talensi District in the Region.
He charged the traditional authorities in the area to collaborate with the mining firm to add more facilities, including football field to unearth the talents of the youth in the community.
The District Chief Executive for the area, Hon. Thomas Pearson Duanab Awini, appealed to management of the Ghana Education Service to post qualified teachers to the school to impact knowledge to pupils in the school.
He further appealed to the mining firm to construct teachers accommodation, provide one hot meal a day for the pupils, a school bus and also teach Chinese Language as it has become an international language.
