IDENTIFY EARLY CONFLICT SIGNS AND ACT – RCD TELLS MDCEs

The Upper East Regional Coordinating Director (RCD), Alhaji Abubakari Inusah has called on Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) across the Region to identify early signals with tendencies to cause security threats and take appropriate steps to curtail same.
He said the conflict situations in the Bawku Municipality and its environs, and the Doba and Kandiga conflict in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality had the potential to derail its development efforts.
Alhaji Inusah entreated the Municipal and District Security Councils, chaired by the respective MDCEs to endeavour to promptly furnish the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) with any leads to possibly breach the peace in their areas.
“I entreat the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and the District Security Council (DISEC) to endeavour to give us early warning signals to help the REGSEC nip in the bud any potential conflict in your areas,” he said.
The RCD who recently took office, made the call at his maiden meeting with the MDCEs and their Coordinating Directors in Bolgatanga.
He said Bawku was a commercial town with many development prospects, and had the capacity to generate revenue to support the Region’s development agenda, just like Techiman and Tema.
“l left Bawku in stable condition in those days with several developments. Only two regions were competing with Bawku for IGF; Techiman and Tema,” the former Coordinating Director for the Bawku Municipal Assembly said.
He added that the Kassena-Nankana Municipality was also one of the most peaceful Municipalities at the time he also served as Coordinating Director for the Assembly, noting that he was shocked to hear about the Kandiga and Doba conflict.
Alhaji Inusah charged the MDCEs and Municipal and District Coordinating Directors (MDCDs) to support him to implement the Regional Minister’s vision to rebrand the Region in the area of development.
“We realized that in most of the national rankings, Upper East is not performing very well. Talk to about the performance contract last year, none of the Districts got an award, the position is not an enviable one at all, we need to do something about it,” he told the MDCEs and the MDCDs.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu, advised the staff of the Municipal and District Assemblies to shelf their political ideologies and support the vision of the Region with their technical expertise.
He called on them to work as a team to increase their Internally Generated Funds to support the development needs since the Common Fund alone was not enough to fund all development projects.
