Members of the Bolgatanga Basket Weavers Cooperative Wednesday met with the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, to discuss the growth and challenges of their craft.
The cooperative shared its journey, detailing its humble beginnings and expansion across multiple centers in the Upper East Region.
However, they highlighted pressing issues affecting their trade, including access to markets, financial support, and modern tools to enhance production.
In response, Hon. Akamugri reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs). “Your craft is not only a source of livelihood but also a vital part of our cultural heritage,” he stated. “My office will explore ways to provide the necessary support to sustain and grow your business.”
The meeting ended on a hopeful note, with the weavers optimistic about future collaborations with the government to preserve and promote their renowned Bolga baskets.
