The National Security Minister, Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah has appreciated the efforts of the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) for the prevailing peace in the region.
He said reports from Bawku in recent times, indicated that through the efforts of REGSEC, Chaired by the Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu, the two sides involved in the conflict had been able to work together.
“I think it is appropriate to congratulate you, the Minister and members of REGSEC for the success so far that we have been able to achieve in managing these security challenges,” he said.
Hon. Kan-Dapaah said this when he presented some pick-up vehicles and motorbikes to four security agencies to enable them effectively combat crime in the region.
The National Security Minister said the tribal conflict in Bawku was of serious concern, and required careful management which could be achieved through hard work and determination, and further commended REGSEC for its achievement so far.
He said government, through the various security agencies had strategized to ensure stability across the country, and therefore, appealed to citizens to support government achieve a peaceful environment to propel development in all 16 regions.
Hon Yakubu, who welcomed the Minister to the Region, said the logistics from the National Security Ministry would boost operations of the beneficiary security agencies.
He said the initiative buttresses the fact that the government of His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo took issues of security seriously.
He said issues of security in the region was of national concern, adding that apart from the Bawku and Doba-Kandiga conflicts, threats of violence from extremists from the Sahel Region was of concern.
The REGSEC Chair used the occasion to appeal to the National Security Minister to extend same gesture to the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Prison Service who did not benefit from the motorbikes and pick-up vehicles.
A pick-up vehicle and 15 motorbikes were presented to the Military, the Ghana Police Service received one pick-up and 20 motorbikes, the Ghana Immigration Service, one pick-up ten motorbikes and the National Investigations Bureau also got two pick-up vehicles and five motorbikes.
