REITERATES CALLS FOR ATTITUDINAL CHANGE TOWARDS WORK

Hon. Stephen Yakubu, the Upper East Regional Minister has bemoaned the attitude of some Local Government Staff at the various Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) in the Region towards work.

He observed that some managements of the MDAs did not attach commitments and dedication towards work, adding that even though he had continuously advocated the need for attitudinal change, since he assumed duty as Regional Minister, staff still exhibited lackadaisical attitudes towards work.

Hon. Yakubu reiterated his concern about staff attitude when he addressed Municipal and District Coordinating Directors (MDCDs) and staff from all 16 MDAs at the Regional Dissemination  Workshop on the 2021 Annual Progress Report in Bolgatanga.

The Minister, also a former Ambassador and Chairman of the Regional Security Council, was disappointed that out of the 16 MDCDs in the region expected to attend the meeting, only six of them were present.

“In fact, we need to change, this behaviour. This is a very important programme which will afford us the opportunity to strategise on how to help the very people we serve, and some of you decided not to come.

“We must change, and this change must come from us, l am here today as Minister, if l don’t perform, l will be removed. But you have job security. You can  only be transferred,” Hon Yakubu said.

He appealed to the MDCDs to effectively collaborate with their staff and development partners to attract the needed development to their respective areas to reduce the poverty level of the people.

He commended the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) for living up to expectations through their constant monitoring and evaluation of Ministries, Departments, Agencies Coordinating Councils (RCCs) and Assemblies.

In a speech read on his behalf, Dr Kodjo Esseim Mensah- Abrampa, the Director-General of the NDPC, said the essence of monitoring and evaluation could not be underestimated as it ensures transparency and accountability.
