RING II PROJECT TO KICK START IN UPPER EAST

A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Feed The Future, is expected to invest US$21million to improve on the living conditions of 85,000 women in their reproductive ages, children under five years and their caretakers in the next five years.
The initiative is under the Resilience In Northern Ghana Phase ll (RING II) project signed in July 2022 and implemented in September 2022.
It is targeted to improve Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), agriculture health, nutrition and good governance.
At a brief review meeting on Monday, Mr. Habib Abubakar, the Upper East and North East Regions Coordinator of Feed The Future, said four beneficiary regions, the Upper East, North East, Upper West and Northern Regions were selected for the implementation.
In the Upper East Region, he said four Assemblies, namely the Bawku Municipality, Bawku West, Garu and Tempane Districts were enrolled unto the programme.
He said the RING ll was modelled on the Global Food Security concept of drawing resources from many angles and channelled to the USAID for funding, adding that it was an arrangement between the Government of Ghana and the Government of the USA.
Mr Abubakar said the procurement processes were ongoing for motorbikes to support the beneficiary Assemblies.
Addressing officials of the NGO on behalf of the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu, the Chief Director of the Regional Coordinating Council, Alhaji Inusah Abubakari, expressed worry about the slow implementation process.
He said the project was a special initiative to help government meet the basic needs of citizens and urged the various stakeholders to work assiduously to realize the full benefits of the project.
He further appealed to the implementers to be transparent and accountable to ensure judicious use of the funds to improve on the living standards of the people in the selected communities.
