MINISTER APPRECIATES SUCCESSES OF USAID ADVANCING NUTRITION PROJECT IN UPPER EAST

The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu says per the Ghana Demographic and Health Survey, severe anaemia among children under five years has reduced from 2.6 percent in 2014 to 1.8 percent in 2022 in the region.
He attributed the improvement to the Government of Ghana and the Advancing Nutrition Project initiated by the USAID Ghana Mission targeted at addressing Child and Maternal Health particularly in the area of anaemia in pregnancy.
The Minister was speaking at the USAID Advancing Nutrition Project closure meeting in Bolgatanga.
Hon. Yakubu said the Advancing Nutrition Project had over the years provided technical support services to health facilities and strengthened multi-sectoral planning for equitable nutrition and health delivery outcomes.
He said the Regional Coordinating Council had partnered the USAID Advancing Nutrition Project over the period in diverse ways to improve on the standard of living of deprived families, critical in the development agenda of the region.
“I therefore want to use this opportunity to commend them for the tremendous interventions in the area of governance, peace and security, agriculture and health,” he said.
In spite of the successes chalked, the Minister reminded health officials to be mindful of the challenges, and work together to sustain the gains made by the project.
Considering the numerous positive impact by the project, beneficiary Municipal and Districts Assemblies appealed for extension of the project.
