Last year, the Red Cross Society of Ghana responded to the urgent call of people of Upper East to come to their aid due to the torrential rains that had devastated communities in the Region. Some of the communities most hit were Manyoro and Natuginia in the Kasena-Nankana Municipality.
As part of the intervention of Red Cross Society of Ghana with support from the Swiss Ref Cross, 50 units of houses were built for the very vulnerable in Manyoro and Natugnia. Additional 52 units have also been built for communities in the Builsa North District.
Today, I joined the Country Directors of Red Cross Society Ghana and Swiss Red Cross and their staff, the Chief of Manyoro: Pe Dr. Atupare Manchi III to hand over the houses to beneficiaries. In my brief remarks I exhorted recipients to take good care of the houses and plant trees to break the winds in future storms.
I also sent an SOS that from all indications the Region is already being threatened by the incessant torrential rains that have been bombarding us for over two weeks.
