HON. STEPHEN YAKUBU PLEADS WITH TRADITIONAL AUTHORITIES TO HARNESS NATURAL RESOURCES TO REDUCE UNPLOYMENT IN THE REGION

Hon. Stephen Yakubu, the Upper East Regional Minister has stated that the region has a number of dams including Tonno, Vea tamne and other natural resources including gold if properly harnessed could reduce the unemployment situation in the region.

 

He added the Pwalugu Multi-purpose Dam will soon come up on stream and has potential to drastically reduce the rural –urban drift of the youth who seek the non-existence jobs and as a result engage in menial jobs down south.

 

Hon. Yakubu said that he often becomes unhappy anytime he sees the northern youth engage in some menial and or dehumanizing jobs in Kumasi and Accra.

 

He therefore pleaded with the traditional authorities to rally behind him to work and change the phenomenon in the region of rural-urban drift of abled  added body youth in search of non-existence job since neither he alone nor the chiefs cannot do it but only possible of they join forces together.

 

The Regional Minister expressed his sentiment today when he paid a courtesy call on the Bongo and Builsa paramount chiefs in their respective palaces.

 

He advised the residents to put aside political inclinations and rather join forces to work and improve upon the socio-economic well-being of the people.
